Highlights

  • Architectural details made with coral and coconut shells.
  • A wooden Avalokiteśvara statue brought to the temple by fishermen in 2004.
  • Ponds, stone and greenery reflecting the coastal setting.

History and origins

Interviews with residents and the abbot record the temple’s existence from 1956. In 2004, fishermen found a wooden Avalokiteśvara statue at sea and brought it to the temple for worship.

The statue’s origin and date have not been established with certainty; estimates of its age or accounts of miraculous responses are not presented as historical conclusions.

Architecture & surroundings

The main and ancestral halls contain extensive coral and coconut-shell cladding, creating distinctive textures and brown tones. The three-entrance gate, Long Thủy Pond, Avalokiteśvara hall and gardens are linked as a pilgrimage route. These materials evoke the coastal region where the temple stands.

Cultural value

Thanh Lương reflects the relationship between devotion to Avalokiteśvara and the lives of people who work at sea. The preservation of the statue and creative use of local materials give the temple its distinctive character.

Events & festivals

Please ask the temple about current observances and daily practice. Contact it beforehand to attend a particular programme or visit as a group, so arrangements can be made; do not infer festival dates from the story of the statue.
