History and origins
Empress Dowager Đoan Huy, Hoàng Thị Cúc, joined Buddhist devotees in supporting the temple’s construction. Work on the lecture hall and rear ancestral hall began in 1951; the main hall was built in 1953. Venerable Thích Đức Thiệu was the first abbot.
The temple has been restored in several phases, so older photographs may differ from the buildings seen today.
Architecture & surroundings
Đắk Lắk provincial sources describe the work of Huế craftsmen in the post-and-beam nhà rường structure, combined with local longhouse forms. The Buddha hall, roofs and woodwork create a dignified atmosphere; later additions have continued to expand the complex.
Cultural value
Khải Đoan is associated with the development of Buddhist organisations in the Central Highlands and the spiritual life of Buôn Ma Thuột residents. It also illustrates exchanges between central Vietnamese building techniques and aesthetics and the cultural setting of the highlands.
Events & festivals
Buddhist festivals and temple programmes follow their own schedule. Please consult current announcements before attending; do not assume that every Executive Board activity is open to visitors or held in the same area.
