History and origins
Local tourism sources record that the temple sheltered some insurgents during movements in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Repeated restorations changed its appearance. On 12 October 2022, it hosted a symposium on Buddhism in Thái Nguyên and a ceremony launching construction of the main sanctuary. On 17 June 2025, after three years of construction, the temple held installation, image-consecration and thanksgiving ceremonies for the sanctuary.
Architecture & surroundings
The main sanctuary inaugurated in 2025 has timber construction, multiple tiled roof tiers and a 工-shaped plan. The front hall, incense hall and rear sanctuary follow one another; columns, carving and devotional spaces create a dignified interior. Local tourism sources also describe an ancestral hall, Mother Goddess shrine and stupa garden. Follow on-site guidance when visiting individual areas.
Cultural value
Phù Liễn is both a place of Buddhist study and worship and a repository of memories of Buddhism’s contributions to the Thái Nguyên community. The 2022 symposium provided an opportunity to study and discuss local Buddhist history and its social role.
Events & festivals
The temple holds a spring festival with incense offerings and community cultural activities. Thái Nguyên’s tourism portal records the 2025 festival on 14–15 February, the 17th–18th days of the first lunar month. On 25 July 2026, the temple hosted the opening Dharma ceremony for the summer rains retreat and a commemoration of fallen heroes. Please follow temple announcements for future ceremonies and practice schedules.
