  • The Three Buddhas of the Three Times statue group
  • Three-entrance gate and bell loft
  • The Phố Hiến heritage setting

History and origins

The story of Lê Hoàn and Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Thanh is passed down to explain the temple's beginnings and should be distinguished from the authenticated dates of surviving objects. The temple has undergone repeated repairs, including a restoration in 1926, and was designated a national architectural and artistic monument in 1992.

Architecture & surroundings

The layout has an inner arrangement resembling 丁 and an outer enclosure resembling 國, with a two-storey, eight-roofed three-entrance gate, front hall, upper sanctuary, patriarchs' hall and two corridors. Tiled roofs, timber structures and a leafy courtyard form a traditional worship space. Nễ Châu Shrine is a separate place of worship within the area and should not be confused with the Buddha hall.

Cultural value

The Tuyết Sơn statue, the Three Buddhas of the Three Times group, bronze bells and stone chimes reflect the temple's sculpture and devotional art. Preserving the site helps sustain the collective memory of Nễ Châu village within Phố Hiến's cultural landscape.

Events & festivals

Materials about the Nễ Châu complex record commemorations of Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Thanh on the full moons of the first and eighth lunar months, and of Lê Long Kính on the 10th day of the ninth lunar month. The temple also observes Buddhist festivals. For specific programmes in the Buddhist temple and shrine areas, please follow the management body's and temple's guidance.
