History and origins
According to city records, inscriptions at the temple mention origins in the Early Lê period. In 1672, Nguyễn Đình Sách, whose Dharma name was Chân Huyền, helped expand the temple.
In 1926, the temple hosted a memorial ceremony for Phan Châu Trinh. It was designated a national heritage site in 1986, reflecting its religious, artistic and historical significance.
Architecture & surroundings
The main hall, courtyard and bell pavilion create a clear spatial axis; tiered roofs and timber details are distinctive features. The stupa garden and supporting buildings reflect successive generations of practitioners rather than a single construction period.
Cultural value
Dư Hàng serves the Buddhist life of urban residents while preserving memories of social change. Caring for scriptures and maintaining ceremonial traditions keep its heritage present in contemporary life.
Events & festivals
Please ask the temple about Buddha’s Birthday, Vu Lan and current practice sessions. Each year’s schedule should follow actual announcements; please contact the temple beforehand if coming with a group or seeking a specialist introduction.
