  • Three-entrance gate, wood carvings, stone dragons and inscriptions.

History and origins

Accounts of the temple's beginnings have been transmitted through documentary sources and local traditions; the buildings now present should not all be assigned to a single period. The temple underwent major restoration during the Restored Lê period and further recovery after war and damage. The two preserved-body statues have been studied, conserved and restored.

Architecture & surroundings

The complex includes a three-entrance gate, front hall, sanctuaries, patriarchs' hall and ancillary buildings. Tiled roofs, carved wooden members, stone dragons beside the steps and old steles give it a distinctive character. Visitors should distinguish historic objects from later reconstructions.

Cultural value

Worship of Pháp Vũ expresses an agricultural community's hopes for favourable rainfall and crops. The preserved-body statues are exceptional heritage relating to Buddhist history and conservation techniques and should be viewed with respect.

Events & festivals

Đậu Temple's festival usually takes place from the 8th to the 10th day of the first lunar month, with processions and local cultural activities. In 2026, Thượng Phúc Commune held the festival from 24 to 26/2. Please consult each year's announcements before arranging a visit.
