Highlights

  • A heritage site linked to Hạ Lang’s history.
  • The Cảnh Hưng inscription of 1782.
  • Spaces honouring earlier generations.
  • The spring festival and Tày and Nùng culture.

History and origins

Site introductions state that the temple was originally named Sùng Khánh, built on Pò Kiền Mountain and later moved to the Huyền Du area. It underwent repeated restorations; an inscription from the 43rd year of Cảnh Hưng (1782) is an important documentary milestone. Since accounts differ in some details, the whole of the present architecture should not be attributed to the Trần period.

Architecture & surroundings

According to the national tourism database, the temple has a Nhị (二)-shaped layout, masonry gable-end walls, a three-entrance gateway and a rear sanctuary. Buddhist altars, worship of the village tutelary deity and figures respected by the community coexist within the grounds. Ancient objects, statues donated over different periods and the festival courtyard reflect successive efforts to preserve and restore the temple.

Cultural value

Alongside Buddhist worship, the temple commemorates Nguyễn Đình Bá and the woman scholar Nguyễn Thị Duệ according to local tradition. Its festival combines ceremonies with folk singing, dragon dances and traditional games, helping preserve Hạ Lang’s community memory.

Events & festivals

The main festival falls on the full moon of the first lunar month; activities may also take place on surrounding days. Palanquin processions, incense offerings, dragon dances and traditional games depend on each year’s programme. Please consult official announcements before attending.
