History and origins
According to Quảng Ninh newspaper, the temple dates from the Lê dynasty and was designated a National Relic in 1997. Through repeated restoration, it has continued to serve local Buddhist worship, study and pilgrimage. Timber components, stone column bases and the stupa garden preserve traces of different restoration phases.
Architecture & surroundings
The complex includes the main Buddhist sanctuary, a Mother Goddess shrine, a stupa garden and supporting spaces within the forest. The main sanctuary has timber framing and tiled roofs; the surrounding landscape is central to the visit. Local sources also mention natural rock formations and a meditation hermitage. The uphill route includes steep stretches, stone steps and uneven ground.
Cultural value
Lôi Âm’s significance combines the old temple with its lake, mountain and forest setting. Pilgrimage calls for an unhurried pace, cleanliness and respect for a place of practice, while offering insight into religious life in western Hạ Long.
Events & festivals
Temple introductions record the traditional festival on the 27th day of the first lunar month. Please confirm the programme for your intended year with the temple or management body; visitor arrangements also depend on the weather and route conditions.
