History and origins

Sóc Trăng museum materials record its construction in 1569. Through numerous repairs, it has remained a centre of religious life for the local Khmer community.

According to local museum materials, the main hall was damaged by fire in 2008 and restored in 2009. Distinguish the temple’s foundation date from the age of each surviving architectural component.

Architecture & surroundings

The main hall follows the southern Khmer style, with layered roofs and characteristic decoration. Other buildings serve monastic study and community activities.

Roofs, columns and murals express Khmer Buddhist art. Trees are a key part of the landscape and the temple’s name; keep quiet and avoid disturbing animal habitats.

Cultural value

The temple preserves Theravāda Buddhism alongside Khmer language, art and cultural life. Protecting its trees and bats helps safeguard the site’s environmental value.

Events & festivals

Khmer community celebrations follow the temple and local calendars. Ask for specific dates before planning to attend; the Vietnamese lunar calendar should not be assumed to be the only calendar used for all Khmer festivals.
