Highlights

  • Statue-steles bearing bodhisattva images and inscriptions
  • Statues and ritual objects preserved from several monuments
  • A national monument designated in 2012

History and origins

Local materials mention Lý-period origins; inscriptions record restoration contributions by Phan Úc and Phan Kim and later repairs. The temple was designated a national monument in 2012. It received many statues and ritual objects from other places of worship in the area, so not every object should be regarded as having been made specifically for Bảo Lâm Temple. In 2023, the temple held a foundation-stone ceremony for a new main sanctuary; this marks the start of construction, not confirmation that the building is complete.

Architecture & surroundings

Stone steles, incense pillars and sculptural objects stand beside the worship buildings. Two statue-steles are distinctive: their fronts bear bodhisattva images, while texts concerning the temple are carved on the backs. The wooden statues vary in type, facial features and arrangement, reflecting different cultural layers.

Cultural value

Bảo Lâm helps preserve objects from Tràng Thành village and monuments that once existed in the surrounding area. Its value lies in continuing religious life while conserving Classical Chinese texts, statues and ritual objects.

Events & festivals

The temple held ceremonies appointing an abbot and casting a large bell in 2015, and a foundation-stone ceremony for the sanctuary in 2023. For the current schedule, please follow temple announcements and contact the temple before attending.
