History and origins

Local sources date the temple’s foundation to around the early 18th century. A 1720 stele, together with other inscriptions concerning donations and restoration, records contributions to its construction. A bronze bell dated 1734 is a representative historical object. The temple has undergone many repairs, so its old objects and current buildings reflect different periods.

Architecture & surroundings

The temple has a gateway, front hall, incense hall and upper sanctuary, with a mainly 丁-shaped plan. Devotional statues, horizontal inscription boards, paired inscriptions, bells and ritual chimes form a traditional northern Vietnamese Buddhist setting. The patriarchal stupas commemorate monastics who practised and taught here.

Cultural value

Alongside Buddhist worship, An Vinh serves local Buddhist community life. The stelae record shared efforts to preserve the temple and provide sources for its history, art and community life.

Events & festivals

The Vietnam Buddhist information portal records early-spring observances, the first lunar month’s full moon, the Buddha’s Birthday and seventh-lunar-month ceremonies at the temple. The temple announces the dates and times each year; please check before attending.
